Part of the process for Matthew McQueen to get on the ballot in the 2026 election, in addition to collecting over 2,500 signatures from registered Democrats across the state, is to secure at least 20% of the vote from the Democratic Party of New Mexico Pre-Primary Convention. In addition, ballot order for the election is determined by votes cast in each race at the Pre-Primary Convention.
Over 650 delegates are elected by their peers at the ward/county level from across the state, and any registered Democrat can run to be a delegate. As a delegate, you get to vote for all statewide offices and federal offices that are on the 2026 ballot. In addition to helping Matthew, you also get to vote for your favorites for Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, and more!
The Democratic Pre-Primary Convention will be held March 7, at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Mescalero, NM. You can participate in-person or virtually.
To become a delegate, though, you need to be elected as a delegate at your ward and county Democratic Party meetings. Delegates are allocated throughout the state by wards (large groups of precincts). You'll need to participate in your local ward/county meetings to run as a delegate.
Meetings are occurring throughout February. Many include advance registration to run as a delegate.
